Worcester Taper Pin/Wright Machine closed their doors forever on June 5, 1997, ending an era for the once dominant manufacturer of taper pins. My late father, Frederick J. Barry, founded Worcester Taper Pin Company (WTP) in 1929 and operated it for 36 years before retiring. I apprenticed in my father's factory while attending Engineering school in the 195O's, and started my career there after graduating. In 1984, when I purchased Standard Lock Washer & Mfg. Company (Stanlok), I ended up back in the taper pin business! It was sad to attend the auction of my father's former company in July. Stanlok purchased several machines at the WTP auction, so I have a connection to my roots!

Stanlok began manufacturing taper pins in the 195O's when they bought the machinery of a failed attempt to manufacture taper pins by some former WTP employees. Ironically, Stanlok's roots in the taper pin business also trace back to WTP. . . another connection! Stanlok also employs former WTP personnel! The demise of Worcester Taper Pin spawned a start-up company that also purchased machinery at the WTP auction. While we welcome competition (it keeps us sharp!), we note that no one company succeeds WTP!

Stanlok is now the leading manufacturer of both standard and special taper pins, and many former WTP customers have already switched to Stanlok during WTP's recent troubles. Stanlok, founded in 1938, manufactures and stocks the complete range of taper pin sizes, both plain & threaded, in steel and stainless steel. Specials in both the inch and metric systems to AN, MS, DIN and ISO specifications are made to order, with quality guaranteed by our in-house Metrology Lab where we have the capability to re-calibrate our own gages.

As a Registered Professional Engineer a member of the ASME B18.8 committee that writes ANSI standards for all types of machine pins (including taper pins), technical assistance is available to all our customers. Now that Worcester Taper Pin is gone, make the Stanlok connection!

We also manufacture "Taper Pins" including stainless and carbon steel taper pins, AN386 taper pins, carbon and stainless steel threaded taper pins, metric taper pins and taper pin reamers. As a job shop, our special niche includes runs from 100 to 100,000 pcs! Contact us for quotations on larger volume runs as well.
